STEELHEAD, SALMON, STRIPER, SHAD

The Lower American River stretches from the basin of Nimbus Dam to the Sacramento River and hosts a variety of anadromous species throughout the year. This scenic tailwater, located right here in Sacramento, offers the opportunity to catch Steelhead, Striped Bass (Stripers), Shad and Salmon at some point during the year. Different species are targeted depending on the schedule of the migrations.

Trips Offered

Most of the year the lower American River is fished from a drift boat due to its size, but there are opportunities to swing flies with switch/spey gear and use a boat to move between runs when the flows are below 6,000 cfs. Offering Full Day, Half Day, and Learn to Fly Fish trips.
